Using XLink to simplify the representation of data
Description
To quote the W3C XLink specification: "[T]he XML Linking Language (XLink) ... allows elements to be inserted into XML documents in order to create and describe links between resources." The specification also states that links defined using XLink are similar to HTML hyperlinks, leading many programmers to conclude that this is the only purpose for the specification. However, there is another way XLink can be used to great benefit: to show the relationships between data resources. This explains how to use XLink pointers when representing data to make XML documents more compact and flexible
